GILGIT: A family experienced profound distress upon arriving in Skardu on a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight when they discovered that the body of their six-year-old son had been mistakenly left at the Islamabad airport.

Ibrahim Asadi, a relative of the deceased, shared that Wajahat had been receiving treatment at the Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Rawalpindi. Sadly, he passed away on Thursday. His body was scheduled to be transported with the family to their hometown in Kharmang for burial. Despite the family completing the cargo arrangements by 8am on Friday and the flight not departing until 1pm, PIA failed to load the body onto the plane.

The oversight came to light only after the family reached Skardu, sparking grief and outrage among the relatives. Upon inquiring at the Skardu airport, PIA authorities admitted to mistakenly forgetting to load the body onto the plane. Shocked by the news, the boy’s mother fainted, and the family protested the airline’s negligence.

Following their protest, PIA authorities arranged for some family members to return to Islamabad, promising that the body would be sent to Skardu the following day.
