KARACHI: A judicial magistrate (South) on Tuesday recorded the statement of complainant Sheeraz under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code in a case involving allegations of murder alongside a narcotics recovery matter.

The statement was recorded in a closed courtroom session that lasted around one and a half hours.

During his deposition, the complainant told the court that he had gone to Shershah area for some work and upon returning, he saw a crowd gathered at the scene. “When I reached there, I saw a dead body lying at the spot,” he stated.

He further said that police had initially been reluctant to register the case. “They did not register the case; I was made to run around for a month,” he claimed, adding that he considered it his duty as a Pakistani citizen to report the matter.

The complainant also told the court that Chhipa ambulance and police mobile van were already present before his arrival. He said the body was taken to Baghdadi police station and he also went there, where a police officer examined the body.

He further stated that a small container was recovered from the right pocket of the deceased’s trousers, bearing the inscription “Anmol aka Madam Pinky Don,” along with images including a lion emblem.

According to the complainant, it later emerged that the deceased was a drug user and had died due to narcotics consumption.

However, the defence counsel questioned the lack of details regarding the container’s colour and other specifics in the case record, arguing procedural gaps in the investigation.

The state prosecutor responded that the statement constituted an initial version of events and that all details would be included in the complete challan submitted later.

The court subsequently made the complainant’s statement part of the official judicial record and adjourned further proceedings.

Forensic analysis sought in Pinky drug case

The latest court proceedings come days after police sought permission to send digital evidence linked to the high-profile “Pinky” drug case for forensic examination. Investigators told a judicial magistrate that they had collected voice recordings, voice messages and call records allegedly connected to accused Anmol alias Pinky and her suspected narcotics network.

Police said the accused has denied that the recordings belong to her, prompting investigators to seek forensic analysis to verify whether the voice matches hers. The court has been asked to allow the evidence to be sent to a forensic laboratory in Punjab.

Authorities allege that Anmol built a drug distribution network over nearly two decades, beginning with the supply of narcotics at private parties in Karachi before expanding operations to other cities. Investigators claim the network served hundreds of clients through a network of associates and online channels.

The suspect was recently arrested by Karachi police. However, controversy emerged after footage showed her appearing in court without handcuffs despite facing narcotics and illegal weapons charges. The incident prompted Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho to order an inquiry into a possible violation of standard operating procedures.

Police say the forensic examination could play a key role in strengthening the case as investigations into the alleged drug network continue.
