ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday assured European Union investors of Pakistan’s continued economic stability and the government’s commitment to sustaining reforms during a meeting with a high-level EU business delegation at the Prime Minister’s House.
The delegation, comprising senior officials of the European Union and representatives of leading European companies, is currently visiting Pakistan to participate in the EU-Pakistan Business Forum. It was led by Peteris Ustubs, Director for Asia Pacific at the European Commission’s Directorate General of International Partnerships, and included officials from the European Investment Bank as well as executives from major European firms.
Welcoming the delegation, the prime minister appreciated their participation in the forum and reiterated that the European Union remains Pakistan’s largest trading partner and a key destination for its exports.
He expressed optimism that the EU-Pakistan Business Forum would help further strengthen trade and investment relations, adding that the government is making consistent efforts to create a business-friendly environment and facilitate foreign investment.
Highlighting economic challenges, the prime minister noted that Pakistan is actively working towards economic stabilization despite regional pressures, including rising oil prices linked to the Middle East situation. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to continue reforms aimed at sustainable growth.
The prime minister also referred to his recent interactions with European Council leadership, where regional security and bilateral cooperation were discussed in detail.
Members of the EU delegation appreciated the government’s support in organizing the business forum and acknowledged the potential for expanding business-to-business cooperation in sectors such as energy, information technology, and communications. More than 600 B2B meetings are expected to take place alongside the forum.
Senior Pakistani officials, including members of the federal cabinet and key advisors, were also present during the meeting.
