ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted an 11-member monitoring committee to oversee governance, law and order and day-to-day administrative affairs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule, according to sources.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has been appointed the committee’s convener. Its members include Rana Sanaullah, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Amir Muqam, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. Representatives of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) will also be included, the sources said.
The committee is separate from the 11-member technocratic advisory council constituted after governor’s rule was imposed on October 11. The advisory council, headed by Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, is tasked with assisting him in running provincial government affairs on behalf of the federal government.
The prime minister chaired the monitoring committee’s first meeting on Monday, during which participants reviewed the situation in the province and discussed measures to address law and order concerns and provide relief to the people, according to sources.
