ISLAMABAD (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directly addressed the pressing concerns of inflation and soaring electricity bills, issues that have caused widespread frustration among citizens.
“I understand the people’s worries about inflation, electricity bills, unemployment, and other issues,” Sharif said during an Independence Day ceremony in Islamabad. “The government is working tirelessly to provide relief, and soon, we will deliver the good news of a significant reduction in electricity tariffs.”
The prime minister underscored the critical need to lower electricity costs to stimulate Pakistan’s industry, agriculture, and exports. “Without reducing electricity tariffs, our economy cannot thrive,” he warned, adding that the government would soon announce a comprehensive economic plan for the next five years.
On the occasion of Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day, Sharif also urged the nation, particularly the youth, to support the government’s efforts in building a prosperous, stable, and peaceful country. He emphasized the importance of focusing on education and skill development, cautioning the youth against falling prey to the “negative agendas” of those seeking to exploit their talents for anti-state activities.
Sharif warned of the dangers of “digital terrorism,” which he said was being used by enemies to disrupt Pakistan’s progress.

The prime minister extended his heartfelt congratulations to the people of Pakistan and paid tribute to the sacrifices of the forefathers and countless unsung heroes of the Pakistan Movement. He praised the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the vision of Allama Iqbal, which led to the creation of Pakistan as an independent and sovereign state on August 14, 1947.
Reflecting on the nation’s journey over the past 77 years, Sharif acknowledged the challenges Pakistan has faced, including natural disasters, economic crises, and social challenges. “Our journey has not been exemplary, but the resilience of our people has allowed us to survive and move forward,” he said.
During the ceremony, Sharif also honoured individuals from various sectors, including sports, education, and health, with special recognition given to Olympic hero Arshad Nadeem, who won a gold medal for Pakistan at the Paris Olympics.
Reaffirming his commitment to fulfilling the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Sharif vowed to continue working hard for the country’s development.
On the international front, Sharif condemned the ongoing Israeli military actions against Palestinians, stating that the “massacre of thousands of innocent Palestinians has dampened our Independence Day celebrations.” He also reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people in their struggle for self-determination.
