Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a ceremonial fighter jet escort from the Qatari Air Force upon arrival in Doha on Wednesday, marking the start of his official visit focused on regional security and bilateral cooperation.

According to official statements, the prime minister’s aircraft was accompanied by Qatari fighter jets as it entered the country’s airspace and escorted to the airport in what he described as a “warm and impressive welcome. He expressed gratitude to the Qatari leadership and pilots for the gesture, calling it a reflection of Qatar’s renowned hospitality and the strength of ties between the two countries.

In a statement following his arrival, Shehbaz Sharif said he was “deeply impressed” by the welcome, adding that such gestures symbolise the enduring and close relationship between Pakistan and Qatar.

During the visit, the prime minister held a meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, which he described as cordial and constructive. The two leaders discussed evolving regional dynamics, with particular focus on the situation in the Gulf.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasised the need for dialogue and international coordination to ease tensions and ensure lasting peace in the region. He also condemned recent attacks targeting Qatar and other regional countries, expressing solidarity with the Qatari people.

The meeting also included a review of bilateral relations, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation across key sectors. Officials said the discussions reflected a shared desire to deepen strategic ties and enhance collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

The visit comes amid heightened regional tensions, with Pakistan actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to promote de-escalation and stability across the Middle East.
