ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said that rising terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa must be stopped at all costs, as the province continues to witness attacks targeting security and law enforcement personnel.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Engineer Amir Muqam, during which matters concerning Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were discussed.

Shehbaz said the sacrifices made by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the fight against terrorism were deeply valued.

“We want Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to develop like other parts of the country,” the prime minister said.

The federal minister briefed Shehbaz on ongoing matters and progress in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Development remains priority

The prime minister directed that efforts for public welfare, development and the provision of basic facilities should continue.

He said development and the prosperity of the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan were among the government’s priorities.

The meeting comes as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed several terrorist incidents in recent days.

On Wednesday, four police personnel were injured when unidentified attackers opened fire on a police checkpoint in Kohat.

A day earlier, four Customs officials were killed in an attack near Qureshi Mor Abhaya Bridge in the limits of Gomel University Police Station in Dera Ismail Khan district.

In a separate incident near Mufti Mahmood Chowk within the limits of Dera Police Station, terrorists targeted a traffic police mobile, killing constable driver Muhammad Habib.
