PM Shehbaz visits Nepal embassy, announces emergency relief assistance

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday visited the embassy of Nepal in Islamabad and expressed solidarity with the people of Nepal following the recent devastating flash floods and landslides that claimed lives and caused widespread destruction.

The prime minister signed the condolence book at the embassy in memory of those killed in the disaster.

He conveyed Pakistan’s deepest sympathies to the Nepali government and people, as well as the bereaved families who lost loved ones in the tragedy.

Shehbaz also reiterated the solidarity he had expressed earlier to Nepali Prime Minister Balendra Shah during a telephone call.

The prime minister told Nepal’s Ambassador to Pakistan Rita Dhital that Pakistan would send emergency relief assistance to Nepal later this week to support ongoing rescue and relief operations.

He offered Pakistan’s continued support to Nepal and expressed hope that the country’s resilient people would emerge stronger from the tragedy.

Shehbaz underscored the close and longstanding fraternal ties between Pakistan and Nepal, saying the two countries would continue to stand by each other in times of need.

Ambassador Dhital thanked the prime minister for his support and said the gesture would be long remembered by the people of Nepal.

She also briefed the prime minister on the current state of bilateral cooperation.

The prime minister was accompanied by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch and other senior officials.
