PML-N’s Sardar Ayaz Sadiq elected speaker NA

ISLAMABAD: Sardar Ayaz Sadiq of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was sworn in as the 23rd speaker of the National Assembly (NA), securing 199 votes.

Ayaz Sadiq defeated PTI-backed candidate Malik Aamir Dogar, who received 91 votes.

After the result was announced, Sadiq went to meet Dogar where he also met other SIC lawmakers.

Sadiq in his address to the lawmakers thanked political leaders for their trust and promised fair governance.

Sadiq assured the opposition members of running the affairs of the house with fairness.

“I am thankful to Allah (SWT) for being elected for the third time in this position. I am thankful to PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif for nominating me,” he said.

The NA speaker said: “Aamir Dogar has always called him a big brother and I will show him by becoming a big brother.”

“My doors are open for everyone.” 

Talking about the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker in the House ,PTI’s Barrister Gohar Ali Khan emphasized the need for a complete Assembly for the Speaker’s election.

PTI’s Umar Ayub mentioned women members in jail, absent from the session.

Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman of JUI-F announced a boycott, stating the assembly doesn’t represent the people. ANP also decided not to participate in parliamentary elections, according to Isfandyar Wali Khan.
