RAWALPINDI: An additional police force has been deployed to disperse former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan’s sit-in near Adiala jail.
Sources said that police have completed work for a possible operation to disperse the sit-in.
Due to the rising tension, additional police personnel have been deployed at the Factory Checkpost, and female officers have also been directed to reach the protest site.
Lights along Adiala Road near the sit-in site have been turned off, and prison vans along with water cannon vehicles have been called in as precautionary measures.
Sources said that police officials are closely monitoring the situation and are considering various options to disperse the protesters if necessary.
Meanwhile, Aleema Khan remained firm in her stance, and the number of participants in the sit-in has reportedly increased.
Authorities said that all necessary measures will be taken to maintain law and order.
The protest followed after the authorities refused to allow PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali and Imran Khan’s sisters from meeting him today, prompting Aleema Khan to stage the sit-in near the Factory Checkpost close to Adiala jail.
Earlier, Aleema Khan had filed a contempt of court petition in the Islamabad High Court against the Adiala jail superintendent and others for denying her meeting with the former prime minister.
She moved the court against the Adiala Jail superintendent and other officials, stating that the IHC’s order — which had restored the schedule of two weekly meetings — was not being implemented.
The petition was filed after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Suhail Afridi, along with several other PTI members, staged an overnight sit-in outside Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, where Imran Khan has been incarcerated since 2023.
The protest came after Afridi was denied permission to meet Imran Khan for the eighth time on Thursday.
