PFA launches campaign to ensure high food quality at Lahore's popular food outlets

LAHORE: Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Director General, Muhammad Asim Javaid, officially launched the ‘Eat Safe Food Campaign’ in Lahore, with the primary objective of enhancing food quality at local ‘dhabas’ and food stalls.

The inaugural phase focuses on 15 popular food markets within Lahore, with plans for expansion across Punjab in the near future.

During the campaign kick-off at Shadman Market, Director General Asim Javaid addressed the media, emphasising the pivotal role of this initiative in improving the dietary and overall health of the public.

He outlined the comprehensive approach of the campaign, which involves providing free hygiene training to workers at small food establishments.

Additionally, medical screening for all food handlers and associated personnel will be conducted to ensure a health-conscious workforce.

The initial phase encompasses various prominent markets in Lahore, including Barkat Market, Taxali Gate, G1 Market, Chauburji, Regal Chowk, Shadman Market, Food Street Old Anarkali, Food Street Shahi Qila, Kareem Block, Gawalmandi Food Street, Lakshmi Chowk, Liberty Market, Moon Market Iqbal Town, Moon Market Gulshan Ravi, and Neela Gumbad Anarkali markets.

Director General Asim Javaid highlighted a significant aspect of the campaign, introducing a special licence category for small businesses with a reasonable fee.

Stressing the importance of obtaining a licence from the competent authority, he mentioned that complete instructions and guidelines are being provided to small-scale food businesses, local shops, food points, and street hawkers.

He affirmed that these directives include comprehensive instructions on conducting food business in accordance with established rules, aligning with the international policies aimed at reforming the food business.

Director General Asim Javed underscored the commitment of the Punjab Food Authority to continuous monitoring, ensuring adherence to food quality, hygiene, and international food standards.

The checking process will be sustained to uphold the highest standards in the food industry.
