Promised jobs, dashed dreams: Employment scam in Karachi

KARACHI: Reports of alleged fraud perpetrated against young individuals seeking employment opportunities abroad emerged on Monday in Karachi.
According to reports, the centre of the scam involves a private company located in the Zulfiqar and Al Murtaza Commercial Area alleged to have vanished with huge sums of money.

According to accounts provided by victims, more than 80 young people have come forward. The victims allege that they have been duped by the said private firm. All of the alleged victims went to a police station to launch a First Information Report (FIR). The affectees are reportedly seeking legal intervention into the matter.
The victims claim that the private company charged varying amounts from each person. The company promised to facilitate “employment opportunities” in various sectors abroad Saudi Arabia.
The private firm allegedly collected varying amounts ranging from Rs250,000 to Rs500,000 from unsuspecting job seekers, promising them lucrative positions overseas.

The affectees revealed that that they also entrusted the company with their original passports, educational certificates, and other essential documents. However, when they attempted to seek clarification or redress from the company, they were met with locked doors.
The fallout from this alleged scam has left many of the affectees in a precarious financial and emotional situation.
