PSL 11: Shamyl, Hasan lead Quetta Gladiators to 174-8 against Hyderabad Kingsmen

Shamyl Hussain and Hassan Nawaz played composed innings to help Quetta Gladiators post a competitive total of 174/8 against Hyderabad Kingsmen in their second Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 match at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.

Electing to bat first, the Gladiators got off to a promising start as openers skipper Saud and Shamyl added quick runs. However, Riley Meredith struck on the final ball of the second over, dismissing Saud for a run-a-ball four and giving Hyderabad an early advantage, reducing Quetta to 21/1.

Meredith struck again in the fourth over, removing Rilee Rossouw for a five-ball duck, leaving the Gladiators under early pressure.

Shamyl Hussain and Hassan Nawaz then steadied the innings, sharing a crucial 50-run partnership that helped Quetta recover and build momentum. Shamyl, in top form, notched back-to-back fifties in PSL 11, scoring 54 off 41 balls, including three fours and three sixes, before Meredith broke the stand.

Hassan continued to anchor the innings, reaching his fourth PSL fifty, while Khawaja Nafay joined him at the crease. The momentum shifted in the 15th over when Maheesh Theekshana claimed two quick wickets, dismissing Nafay for six and wicketkeeper-batter Ben McDermott for a duck.

In the final overs, Tom Curran struck boundaries to push Quetta past the 150-run mark. Akif Javed wrapped up the innings with two wickets in the last over, removing Curran for 31 off 18 balls and Alzarri Joseph for a duck.

Abrar Ahmed remained unbeaten on nine off three balls, hitting back-to-back fours, while Ahmed Daniyal contributed six off eight deliveries, helping Quetta finish with a competitive 174/8.
