PSO ‘restores’ fuel supply to PIA

KARACHI: Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has reinstated fuel supply to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) following the payment of Rs20 million in outstanding dues.

This move comes after PIA’s inability to settle its daily dues prompted the suspension of fuel supply by PSO.

The suspension of fuel supply had severe consequences, resulting in the cancellation of various PIA flights, including Karachi to Lahore (PK 306), Karachi to Peshawar (PK 350), Karachi to Gwadar, Karachi to Islamabad (PK 370), Karachi to Quetta (PK 310), Karachi to Bahawalpur (PK 588), and Karachi to Rahim Yar Khan.

Sources within PSO revealed that the suspension arose from non-payment of dues amounting to Rs10 million, out of a total of Rs1.5 million, despite PIA’s settlement of Rs1.4 million on October 9. Subsequently, fuel supply had been terminated in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Peshawar.

As a consequence of this disruption, two domestic flights were affected, with a Faisalabad to Karachi flight experiencing delays and an Islamabad to Sukkur flight being canceled.

PIA faces flight delays as PSO stops fuel supply over unpaid dues

Notably, the suspension of fuel supply has not impacted PIA’s international flights, which continue to operate on schedule.

This fuel supply suspension represents a significant setback for PIA, which is already grappling with financial challenges, leading to a series of flight cancellations and delays in recent months due to financial constraints.
