ISLAMABAD: Joint Investigation Team (JIT), set up to probe a malicious social media campaign targeting Supreme Court judges, has ordered Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to collect information on those disseminating hate content.

The Interior Ministry had established a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe a malicious social media campaign targeting Supreme Court judges.

The JIT, convened at the FIA headquarters in Islamabad on Thursday, was led by the Additional Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), according to sources.

Comprising experts from diverse fields, the JIT aims to unravel the origins and motives behind the orchestrated campaign, with a focus on identifying those responsible for defaming the judiciary on social media platforms.

In its inaugural meeting, held on Thursday, the JIT underscored its commitment to addressing the issue head-on.

According to sources, officers from sensitive institutions presented a comprehensive plan of action, directing the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to collect information on those disseminating hate content.

The JIT has instructed to compile details of content uploaders, sharers, and commenters involved in the anti-judiciary campaigns.

The next phase is anticipated to witness arrests of individuals spreading hate materials defaming the judiciary on social media.
