PTI registers new firm in US in name of Gohar Ali Khan for lobbying

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has registered a new firm with the US Department of Justice for fundraising and lobbying purposes.

The new firm named Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the newly elected chairman of PTI, as the foreign principal. However, Barrister Gohar Ali told Hum Investigation Team that he was unaware of this development.

According to the documents submitted to the Department of Justice on December 8, 2023, the firm’s purpose is to “bring democratic reform, elevate people financially and educationally, improve economic and production level, create harmony among Pakistani citizens with the US.”

The firm, which has the registration number 7351, was founded on December 2, 2023, by two American nationals, Raja Muhammad Yaqub and Saghar Ali Bakhtiari. Its primary business address is 2335 W Devon Ave, Suite 201, Chicago. The firm will collect funds from members and the local community, the documents revealed. The firm is registered under the PTI Chicago Chapter. This is the first firm that PTI US has registered with the new PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.

The document also revealed that the previous seven firms registered by different volunteers and PTI US leaders had either PTI or Imran Khan as their foreign principal. The agreement between the new firm and its foreign principal, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, was signed on December 2.

However, the document stated that “there is no agreement between the registrant and the foreign principal, there is no duration, fee and expense.”

The term foreign principal was defined as “a foreign government, foreign political party, foreign organization, foreign individual and, for the purpose of registration, an organization or an individual any of whose activities are directly or indirectly supervised, directed, controlled, financed, or subsidized in whole or in major part by a foreign government, foreign political party, foreign organization or foreign individual.”

Barrister Gohar Ali Khan told the Hum Investigation Team that he was unaware of this development and would collect the latest updates on this new firm.
