Punjab govt announces free cancer treatment in Multan

LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari said on Sunday that cancer patients in Multan would also be provided free treatment after the launch of the facility in Lahore.

In a statement, Bukhari said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had inaugurated the cancer treatment facility in Lahore and the Multan Cancer Centre.

She said that patients with all stages of cancer would receive free treatment at the Multan centre and would not be given lengthy waiting periods for treatment.

Bukhari claimed that cancer patients would be treated within 60 minutes, describing the initiative as a major development in Punjab’s healthcare sector.

She said that the 1,000-bed Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital in Lahore had also been completed, calling it a modern healthcare project.

She said the hospital, like the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI), would help establish Pakistan’s identity internationally.

Commenting on political matters, Bukhari said Maryam Nawaz was not competing with or being compared with any provincial government.

She accused opponents of resorting to personal attacks because they could not compete with the Punjab chief minister’s performance.

Bukhari also alleged that the May 9 and November 26 incidents had become a political liability for PTI founder Imran Khan and claimed that preparations were under way for a “third rebellion” on September 27.

She urged parents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to keep their children away from what she described as Imran Khan’s “rebellions”, alleging that his own children were living in London while young people in KP were being used to pursue his political objectives.
