Punjab govt declares public holiday on Shab-e-Barat

LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced a public holiday across the province on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat, said an official notification.

According to the notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD), all government offices under the administrative control of the Punjab government, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, government corporations, local councils, and all government and semi-government educational institutions will remain closed on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

The holiday will be observed uniformly across all districts of the province. The Auqaf Department and other relevant authorities have been directed to ensure proper arrangements at mosques, shrines, and cemeteries to manage expected crowds and prevent any untoward incidents.

Meanwhile, the Sindh School Education Department has also announced a holiday for educational institutions on 15 Shaban 1447, corresponding to 4 February 2026, in observance of Shab-e-Barat.

The notification in Sindh specifies that the holiday will apply to both government and private schools.
