Quetta Gladiators defeat Lahore Qalandars by 6 wickets

KARACHI: In a thrilling encounter during the 28th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9, Quetta Gladiators defeated Lahore Qalandars by 6 wickets, securing their spot in the playoff stage.
The Gladiators achieved the target of 167 runs with a six off the last ball of the match. With this victory, Quetta not only won the match but also eliminated Karachi Kings from the playoff contention, while Lahore Qalandars had already been out of the race.
Quetta Gladiators needed 4 runs off the last ball to win, and Wasim Junior delivered by hitting a six off Shaheen, propelling his team not just to a match win but also into the next stage of the competition. Saud Shakeel remained unbeaten with a stellar 88 runs.
The match, played at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium, saw Lahore Qalandars opting to bat first after winning the toss against Quetta Gladiators. Lahore made two changes to their team, while Quetta made one. Notably, Fakhar Zaman from Lahore was unavailable for the match due to an injury sustained while catching a ball in the previous day’s match against Karachi Kings.
Lahore Qalandars set a total of 166 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs, with captain Shaheen Afridi scoring 55 runs and Abdullah Shafiq remaining unbeaten with 59 runs. Other contributions came from Saibzada Farhan with 25 runs, Mirza Baig with 12, and Shaye Hope out for 5 runs.
From Quetta Gladiators, Abrar Ahmed took 2 wickets, while Mohammad Wasim and Mohammad Amir each claimed one.
It’s important to note that Lahore Qalandars are at the bottom of the points table with 3 points and are out of the running for the next stage. On the other hand, Quetta Gladiators are in fourth place with 9 points. Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, and Islamabad United have already qualified for the playoffs.
Remember, in the first match played on Sunday, Islamabad United secured their playoff spot by defeating Multan Sultans in an exciting match with a 3-wicket victory.
