Quetta Gladiators snatch a thrilling last-ball victory over Karachi Kings

KARACHI: Quetta Gladiators pulled off a remarkable chase of 166 runs against Karachi Kings in the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9.

Quetta Gladiators reached the target on the final delivery of the match, thanks to a sensational knock of 58 runs by Sherfane Rutherford, who remained unbeaten.

The match was played at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, where Quetta Gladiators’ skipper Riley Rossouw decided to field first after winning the toss.

Karachi Kings’ innings

Karachi Kings posted a decent total of 165 runs in 20 overs, losing eight wickets along the way. James Vince was the highest scorer with 37 runs, followed by Mohammad Nawaz with 28 runs. Shan Masood and Hasan Ali added 2 runs each.

Other contributors were Tim Seifert with 21 runs, Kieron Pollard with 13 runs, and Shoaib Malik with 12 runs. Anwar Ali boosted the score with an unbeaten 25 runs at the end.

Quetta Gladiators’ bowlers tried to restrict the runs, with Abrar Ahmed claiming three wickets, and Aqeel Hussain and Osama Tariq taking two wickets each.

Quetta Gladiators chased down the target of 166 runs with five wickets in hand on the last ball of the match. Jason Roy smashed 52 runs off 31 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 2 fours in his innings.

Sherfane Rutherford was the star of the show, scoring 58 runs off 31 balls, with 6 sixes and a four. He kept his cool and hit the winning runs on the last ball. Aqeel Hussain also played a crucial role, scoring 22 runs not out.

Karachi Kings’ bowlers tried to defend the total, with Hasan Ali and Zahid Mahmood taking two wickets each.

It is worth mentioning that Karachi Kings made four changes in their playing eleven for today’s match, dropping Deploy, Mir Hamza, Tabriz Shamsi, and Aamir Khan. They were replaced by James Vince, Anwar Ali, Zahid Mahmood, and Muzarabani.

Quetta Gladiators also made one change in their team, bringing in Sohail Khan instead of Mohammad Amir.
