Rain and hailstorm lash Islamabad, more showers forecast

ISLAMABAD: Rain and hailstorms lashed parts of Islamabad on Thursday, as the weather department forecast more showers and strong winds across the twin cities and the wider Potohar region in the coming hours.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said gusty winds and thunderstorms were expected in Rawalpindi and surrounding areas, including Jhelum, Chakwal and Attock.

“Heavy rainfall is likely in Murree, Kahuta, Gujar Khan and Talagang, while isolated hailstorms may also occur in some areas,” the department said in its latest advisory.

The sudden change in weather brought temporary relief from rising temperatures but also raised concerns over possible damage to crops and disruption to power supply.

Authorities urged residents to take precautionary measures in view of the expected severe weather conditions and advised them to stay updated with official alerts.

The PMD warned that strong winds and hail could damage vulnerable structures, vehicles and standing crops in affected areas.
