Rs2b proposed for Law Ministry in 2026-27 federal budget

WEB DESK: The federal government has proposed a total allocation of Rs2b for the Ministry of Law and Justice in the 2026-27 budget, with a significant portion directed towards ongoing and new judicial infrastructure projects across the country.
According to budget documents, Rs1.18b has been set aside for ongoing projects while Rs820m is proposed for new initiatives.

A notable share of the new funds will support the construction of judicial facilities and residences, reflecting continued emphasis on strengthening the judiciary’s physical infrastructure.
Focus on high court and Supreme Court facilities
Among the major allocations, Rs300m has been proposed for the construction of residences for judges of the Federal Constitutional Court. Another Rs500m is earmarked for land acquisition, boundary wall construction, and guard rooms for the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court and other judges’ residences.
An additional Rs20m has been proposed for scrutiny and verification of the Islamabad High Court judges’ housing project.
The budget also includes Rs228.306m for the construction of a facilitation centre at the Islamabad High Court and Rs261.765m for a litigants facilitation centre in the district judiciary of Islamabad.
For the Supreme Court, Rs295.102m is allocated for the extension of its branch registry in Karachi, while Rs226.659m is proposed for an administrative block at the Quetta branch registry.
Peshawar projects and capacity building
In Peshawar, Rs39.176m has been proposed for the construction of a camp office of the Federal Shariat Court and Rs340.695m for a new Federal Courts Complex.
Smaller allocations include Rs16.885m for reviewing the construction of offices for the Attorney General and Advocate General, Rs3.001m for the Planning and Monitoring Unit of the ministry, and Rs16.773m for the automation of federal courts and tribunals.
The ministry has also proposed Rs50mfor capacity building of legal wings in the Ministry of Law and Justice and other federal ministries and divisions, along with Rs12.222m for the digitisation of records and legislation. These measures aim to modernise judicial processes and improve service delivery to litigants.
