Ruth Codd has shared that she is recovering after undergoing a second below-knee amputation.
The Irish actress and reality TV participant, who recently appeared on Celebrity Traitors, posted an update on TikTok from her parents’ home as she begins the healing process. “Good news, we have had a full-circle moment, I am back making TikTok content in my parents’ house. Bad news, I cannot do it upstairs, because I have just had my second below-knee amputation,” she said.
Codd first had her leg amputated at the age of 23, following a football injury as a teenager that led to years of complications and chronic pain. She explained that continued strain on her remaining limb ultimately made the second operation necessary.
She previously spoke about the decision on the YouTube channel FFTV, saying the way she relied on her crutches had placed increasing pressure on her other leg. “My quality of life, it is never going to get any better from this point,” she said at the time.
The 29-year-old built a strong following on TikTok before making her television debut in Netflix horror series The Midnight Club. More recently, she appeared on Celebrity Traitors, where viewers saw her successfully identify fellow contestant Jonathan Ross before being eliminated from the competition.
Earlier this year, Codd also appeared in the live-action remake of How To Train Your Dragon, playing the role of Phlegma the Fierce, a warrior with a limb difference. Speaking around the film’s release, she said she was proud to represent a “strong, capable” character with a disability.
Despite the challenges of recent months, Codd has said she remains optimistic, adding that once she receives two prosthetics, she hopes to feel “pretty unstoppable”.
