ISLAMABAD: A sealed First Information Report (FIR) regarding the deaths of Rangers personnel during a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest in Islamabad has surfaced, accusing former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi and other party leaders of orchestrating and executing the plan that led to the triple murder.
At least three Rangers personnel were killed in a hit-and-run incident on Srinagar Highway on October 26.
The FIR has been registered against the PTI leaders at the Ramna Police Station in Islamabad.
According to the FIR, which was previously sealed on the orders of senior authorities, the incident was allegedly planned within the confines of Adiala jail. The FIR says that the deaths of the Rangers personnel occurred “on the direct orders and instructions of the PTI founder.”
The FIR says that the plan for targeting security personnel was devised during various meetings between senior PTI leaders and the party chief at the jail. It says some prisoners, labourers and undercover police officials stationed at Adiala jail were witness to this plan.
The FIR further alleges that Bushra Bibi, along with senior PTI leaders including Ali Amin Gandapur, Omar Ayub, Waqas Akram, Salman Akram Raja, Murad Saeed, Zulfi Bukhari, Raoof Hassan and Hammad Azhar, conspired to execute the plan. The PTI leadership is accused of criminal collusion, including issuing video messages to incite the public.
The FIA claims that PTI leadership provoked the public against the military and the government, which led to the fatal incident. During the protest, a Land Cruiser driven by an unidentified individual allegedly ran over three Rangers personnel who were performing duty.
The FIR also includes charges of terrorism and violations of 10 different sections of the Pakistan Penal Code alongside the murder charges against senior PTI leaders. The FIR was registered on a complaint of a Sindh Rangers official on November 26 at 2:40 am.
It should be remembered that three Rangers personnel and one civilian were killed and five others, including Rangers and police officials, were seriously injured after PTI protesters rammed a vehicle into them on the Srinagar Highway on October 26.
Security officials had reported that over 100 police personnel were injured, some of them critically, during the clashes between the PTI workers and security forces.
On October 28, Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar accusing PTI protesters of disrupting peace in Islamabad had said that they were equipped with weapons
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Tarar had said the city’s residents had been besieged for days as protesters, equipped with weapons, tear gas shells, slingshots, and stones, violated the Islamabad High Court’s order banning protests.
“The government offered the protesters an alternate location at Sangjani for their demonstration, but they had no interest in a peaceful protest,” he had stated.
Tarar had alleged that the protest resulted in attacks on police and Rangers personnel, leading to the martyrdom of three rangers.
