WEB DESK: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Mohsin Naqvi officially inaugurated the newly upgraded surgical, medical, and administrative blocks of Services Hospital, marking a significant milestone in modernising healthcare infrastructure.
During the inauguration, the CM toured the modernised wards, expressing satisfaction with the state-of-the-art medical equipment and beds provided.
The CM’s visit included inspections of nursing counters and doctors’ rooms, where he emphasised the swift operationalization of all operation theatres and stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the upgraded blocks.
Notably, a digital data storage system for patient records was inaugurated, representing a pivotal step towards enhancing healthcare services through technology.
The Secretary of Communication and Works provided a comprehensive overview of the upgrade work, while the Secretary of Health highlighted the improved treatment facilities now available in the upgraded blocks.
CM Mohsin Naqvi also urged the expedited completion of the new lab and diagnostic centre, providing specific instructions to the Principal of the Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS).
Addressing the media, CM Naqvi reflected on his visit to Services Hospital six months ago, expressing shock at the facility’s dire state at that time.
He praised the rapid transformation of the hospital into a state-of-the-art facility within a remarkably short span of four and a half months.
The ongoing upgradation, covering an area of 311,000 square feet, includes the addition of 24 new, state-of-the-art operation theatres in the 1,600-bed hospital.
CM Mohsin Naqvi commended the dedicated efforts of Provincial Minister Mansoor Qadir, Secretary of Communication and Works, and the Health Department, specifically highlighting Minister Qadir’s frequent visits to Services Hospital.
Responding to questions about recent allegations against the Commissioner of Rawalpindi, the CM refrained from commenting until the completion of the report.
He acknowledged the increased cost of medicines in hospitals but emphasised that the budget remains unchanged, noting the possibility of revision by the incoming government.
The CM concluded with optimism about the province’s and country’s future development, expressing commitment to defending officers during his tenure. He highlighted initiatives to increase the number of nurses and paramedic staff, including language training for nurses.
The event was attended by various provincial ministers, secretaries, and relevant officials, showcasing the collaborative effort towards advancing healthcare infrastructure in Punjab.
