Seven former PMs beneficiaries of NAB amendments (updated)

ISLAMABAD: Seven former prime ministers, including the Sharif brothers, have reaped the benefits of amendments to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) laws enacted during the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government’s tenure.

The list of beneficiaries from these amendments extends beyond the Sharif brothers to encompass former Prime Ministers Yousaf Raza Gilani, Shaukat Aziz, Shahid Khaqqan Abbasi, Raja Pervez Ashraf, and Shujaat Hussain.

Among the notable beneficiaries of these amendments are Hamza Shahbaz, former President Asif Zardari, his close associates Anwar Majeed and his son Abdul Ghani Majeed, Raja Parvez Ashraf, Shaukat Tarin, Yusuf Raza Gilani, Senator Abdul Qadir, Farzana Raja, Senator Rubina Khalid, Senator Yusuf Baloch, Saleem Mandviwalla, former Provincial Minister Rehmat Ali, Asfand Yar Khan Kakar, and former Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibtain Khan. The list also includes the names of Nawab Aslam Raisani and Lashkari Raisani. Cases involving Kakar and Arbab Alamgir were either closed or transferred to the NAB.

Additionally, in the Toshakhana reference, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, a co-accused, benefited from these amendments at the request of former Prime Minister Gilani.

Apart from these political figures, numerous bureaucrats also benefited from the so-called reforms.

During Imran Khan’s tenure, the NAB amendments also proved beneficial to individuals such as Gilani, Ashraf, Saifullah Bangash, former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Liaquat Jatoi, General (retired) Javed Ashraf Qazi, General (retired) Saeed Zafar, Major General Hamid Hasan, former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, Nawab Raisani, and others.

Many government officials had their cases closed as a result of the amendments implemented during this period.
