LAHORE: Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan’s match-winning 113 against England has earned him a place on the honours board at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium after his side secured a thrilling one-wicket victory.
Shadab produced a remarkable batting performance in the run chase, joining Haris Rauf to register an unbeaten 89-run partnership for the 10th wicket, helping Pakistan seal a memorable win against England.
The partnership surpassed the 52-year-old record of 84 runs set by West Indies’ Deryck Murray and Andy Roberts against Pakistan in 1975 while chasing a target.
Speaking to PCB Digital after the match, Shadab said he had not realised the ball had taken an edge off his bat, but Haris insisted on taking a review.
Shadab also admitted that he had been feeling frustrated at the time but was delighted to repay the confidence shown in him by the selectors and team management.
Haris, meanwhile, said he had believed from the outset that Pakistan could win the match. He added that he and Shadab had agreed in the closing moments to finish the game themselves.
Praising Shadab’s batting, Haris described his performance as world-class and said the victory was a moment of great joy for the people of Pakistan.
