SHC seeks replies on illegal factories in Korangi

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and others on a petition challenging illegal factories in residential areas of Korangi.
During the hearing of the petition concerning illegal factories in Korangi’s residential areas, the petitioner’s lawyer, Jahangir Rajper, stated that chemical factories have been set up in residential areas, which emit chemicals that cause different chronic and air-borne diseases and air pollution.

He said that the commercial activities in residential zones were contrary to infrastructure law.
After the hearing, the court issued notices to the SBCA, SEPA, KMC and others to submit their replies at the next hearing. The SHC adjourned the hearing for three weeks.
