ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik has announced his retirement from the Pakistan Super League (PSL), bringing to a close a decade-long association with the league.
Malik confirmed the news via his social media accounts, reflecting on his ten seasons in the PSL and expressing gratitude for the experiences and friendships he made on and off the field.
“I have enjoyed every single moment throughout my 10 years in the PSL,” Malik wrote. “It’s time to call it a day. However, my passion and motivation to serve for the betterment of cricket will always stay.”
PSL Career and Teams
Malik has been a regular feature in all ten seasons of the PSL, representing four franchises during his career: Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, and Quetta Gladiators.
His final PSL appearance was for Quetta Gladiators in PSL 10. Statistically, he leaves the league as the fourth-highest run-scorer in PSL history, amassing 2,350 runs in 92 matches at an average of 33.09.
As an all-rounder, he also claimed 17 wickets, demonstrating his value beyond batting.
International Career
Malik retired from Test cricket in 2015 and ODI cricket in 2019. While he never officially announced retirement from T20 Internationals, the 44-year-old all-rounder has not represented Pakistan since 2021.
Over his T20 career globally, Malik is the sixth-highest run-scorer, with 13,571 runs and 83 half-centuries at a strike rate of 127.24.
Legacy
Known for his adaptability and leadership, Malik has been one of Pakistan cricket’s most enduring figures, bridging generations of players and helping develop the T20 format domestically and internationally. Though he has retired from the PSL, his statement suggests he may continue to contribute to cricket in other capacities.
