Show-cause notice issued to block my candidacy as opposition leader: Sher Afzal Marwat

ISLAMABAD: Sher Afzal Marwat, a recently elected member of the National Assembly and a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has alleged that attempts were made to tarnish the reputation of Barrister Gohar by serving him a show-cause notice.

Speaking on “Pakistan Tonight with Syed Samar Abbas” on Hum News, Marwat stated that the show-cause notice was an orchestrated attempt to create controversy rather than address any genuine grievances. “Instead of issuing a show-cause notice, a simple phone call asking for an apology could have sufficed,” Marwat remarked, expressing his dismay over the handling of the situation.

He said that the show-cause notice issued to him to block his candidacy as the opposition leader in the National Assembly.

Regarding speculations about his candidacy for the position of opposition leader in the National Assembly, Marwat remarked, “Perhaps certain quarters are uncomfortable with me. Our focus should be on priorities, not controversies.” He emphasized that he harbours no claims or entitlements but decried attempts to sideline him from the race.

Marwat acknowledged the internal dynamics within the PTI, noting that his candidacy has garnered support from party workers and officials. Refuting any notion of obstinacy, Marwat expressed admiration for Barrister Gohar, affirming his commitment to resolving any misunderstandings between them.

Addressing broader political engagements, Marwat disclosed indirect communications with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), highlighting discussions with Asad Qaiser and Khursheed Shah and a proposed meeting with Asif Zardari. He underscored their stance on upholding the rule of law.

He said that the IMF decides our electricity, gas and water prices. The IMF’s mission aims to promote democracy and rule of law. The International Monetary Fund is running all the system here, so it should also audit the election results,” he said asking where did the loans taken from the IMF earlier go?
