Sindh High Court orders PTA to restore ‘X’

X

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has ordered the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to fully restore the social media site ‘X’ across the country.

Senior journalists Zarar Khuhro, Amber Shamsi and others had approached the Sindh High Court through advocate Abdul Moeez Jafrii against the ban on the social media platform X for five days in the country.

The counsel for the petitioners told the court that the interior minister had stated that no directive had been issued to ban X, while the IT Minister Omar Saif had said that the IT sector had been given a boost.

The counsel said that the prime minister, the interior minister and the IT minister were using X with VPN and telling the nation that X was not banned.

The counsel for the petitioners said that X had been banned since the day the former commissioner Rawalpindi had stated how they had rigged the elections, and people were criticizing after his confession.

After hearing the arguments, the court directed that the service of X be restored without any interruption or restriction.

The Sindh High Court also sought a detailed reply from the PTA and others on the matter at the next hearing and restrained the PTA from arbitrarily shutting down internet websites, including X and other social media platforms.
