KARACHI: A woman was killed while her husband and 10-year-old son were injured when a speeding car hit their motorcycle in Defence Phase 8, police said.
The deceased was identified as Miraj Bibi, while the injured were her husband, Umair, and their 10-year-old son, Aun.
According to police, the accident occurred in Defence Phase 8 and was caused by the car’s high speed.
Police arrested the car driver and took the vehicle into custody, which was shifted to the Sahil police station for further investigation.
Meanwhile, a motorcyclist was injured after a kite string struck his throat near the Liaquatabad Underpass.
Rescue officials said the injured man was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment.
In another incident, an unidentified gunman opened fire in Defence Phase 2, injuring a citizen identified as Faraz.
He was shifted to Jinnah Hospital, while police launched an investigation.
Separately, a young man was shot dead during a robbery resistance at Liaquatabad No 10.
According to police, the victim, who worked at an LPG shop, was with a colleague when two armed motorcycle riders entered the shop and demanded his motorcycle.
When he resisted, the suspects shot him in the head before fleeing with his motorcycle, mobile phone and cash.
The suspects abandoned their own motorcycle at the scene, which was later taken into police custody.
Police said initial investigation indicated that the shooting occurred during the robbery. Further investigation is under way.
The victim’s relatives later staged a protest with his body on the main Liaquatabad No 10 road, demanding the immediate arrest of the suspects.
The protest blocked traffic travelling from Liaquatabad towards Gharibabad.
Police said the number of people killed in robbery-resistance incidents in Karachi this year has reached 52.
