Sungjae suffers bizarre bunker blunder at Truist Championship

SEOUL: Im Sung-jae endured a bizarre moment at the Truist Championship in North Carolina when his bunker shot on the par-five 15th hole dramatically rolled back into the sand.

The South Korean’s third shot initially looked perfect as it cleared the bunker and landed near the green-side fence at Quail Hollow Club.

But moments later, the ball struck the fence and slowly rolled more than 60 yards back across the green before settling just six feet away from where he had played the shot.

Fans who had erupted in cheers quickly groaned in disbelief as the stunning reversal unfolded before their eyes.

The 28-year-old eventually carded a bogey on the hole and finished the third round tied for fourth, four shots behind leader Alex Fitzpatrick.

Earlier in the round, Im had thrilled spectators with a brilliant recovery on the 14th hole, rolling up his trouser leg and stepping one foot into a pond to play a superb shot that set up a birdie.
