LAHORE: Police said on Sunday that they are investigating a suspected surveillance attempt after a drone crashed into the building housing the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) headquarters in Lahore, with officials suspecting it was sent with terrorist intent.
The incident took place at around 12:30am when a modern surveillance drone approached the headquarters from the Jallo Mor side and struck the building, according to police.
Police said the drone was apparently being used to reconnoitre the internal areas of the CTD headquarters.
The Bomb Disposal Squad inspected the device and cleared it, while the CTD security team took it into custody.
According to police, the cameras attached to the drone and its battery lights were operational when it was recovered.
Police suspect unidentified individuals sent the drone towards the CTD headquarters with the intention of carrying out a terrorist activity. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident and the purpose of the drone are being investigated.
The security team has submitted an application at Harbanspura police station for legal action, police said, adding that investigations were under way from all angles.
