WEB DESK: Multi-talented actor and singer, took to her Instagram Stories to voice her apprehensions regarding the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
Simultaneously, she declared to take a break from social media. In a heartfelt plea, Gomez highlighted the critical importance of protecting innocent lives while providing insight into her recent social media silence.
Gomez expressed her profound distress over the global “horror, hate, violence, and terror” she has witnessed, extending her deep concerns to those suffering on all sides of the conflict.
In her Instagram Stories, the 31-year-old artist articulated, “I’ve been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence, and terror that’s occurring in the world. The sight of people being tortured and killed, or any act of hatred directed at any group, is truly horrific.”

Hailing from Texas, the Calm Down singer conveyed her worry for all parties involved and underscored the need to protect people, with a particular focus on children, and put an end to the violence once and for all. She further stated, “I’m sorry if my words will never suffice for everyone, or if they cannot be summarised in a hashtag. I simply cannot bear to witness innocent people suffering. That’s what deeply troubles me. I wish I could change the world, but a social media post won’t do that. With love, Selena.”
In addition to her global perspective, the artist offered a personal viewpoint on the matter, highlighting the impact of having a younger sister, Gracie Elliott Teefey, aged 10. Accompanied by a photo of Teefey, Gomez expressed, “Having a sister has tragically affected me every day. I would do anything for the well-being of children and innocent lives.”
However, Gomez’s statements have not been without criticism, with some suggesting that she implied social media activism is ineffective. A user on the platform X remarked, “Even Selena Gomez, of Mexican origin, seems to prioritize White Lives Only. While she expressed empathy during the Ukraine war, she now feels her voice won’t make a difference, despite her 430 million followers.”
