Tariq Jameel calls on Arshad Nadeem, awards Rs0.5 million

Mia Channu: Renowned religious leader Maulana Tariq Jamil on Tuesday called on Olympic gold medalist and javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem at Tableeghi Markaz in Mia Channu and presented him with a cheque of Rs0.5 million.

Arshad Nadeem broke the Olympic record by throwing 92.97-meter-long javelin during the final played in Paris last week and clinched a sole gold medal for Pakistan.

Upon his arrival at Allama Iqbal Internals Airport in Lahore, Arshad Nadeem received a hero’s welcome as a large number of people, political leaders, social activists, representatives of various sports boards and other top officials.

Those who received him at the airport included Minister for Planning and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal, Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Chairman Rana Mashhood and former railway minister Saad Rafique.

On Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz visited Mian Channu and presented Arshad Nadeem a cheque of Rs100 million.

It should be noted that the Sindh government has announced a prize of Rs50 million to Arshad Nadeem where Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has announced Rs1 million for the athlete.

It should also be noted that the Punjab government has started civic work including laying new electric transmission lines and construction of roads and streets in Mian Channu, the hometown of Arshad Nadeem.
