ISLAMABAD: Thousands of runners and cycling enthusiasts are expected to take part in a Pinktober Run across Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad on Saturday, to raise breast cancer awareness and support fundraising efforts for the cause.
Organised by Sports In Pakistan, the event will feature 5km and 10km runs, a 20km cycling category and a special 30km challenge for participants in the Karachi Distance Series.
The initiative aims to bring communities together through sports while highlighting the importance of breast cancer awareness, early detection and timely medical consultation.
Sports to promote breast cancer awareness
Speaking ahead of the event, Shoaib Nizami, CEO of Sports In Pakistan, said the initiative sought to channel the collective energy of participants towards a meaningful cause.
“Running has the power to bring people together beyond finish lines and personal achievements. The Pinktober Run is about turning that collective energy into something meaningful,” he said.
Nizami added that every participant would help spread an important message about breast cancer awareness and support a cause affecting countless families.
He said Pinktober served as a reminder of the importance of awareness, early detection and timely medical consultation.
Multiple running and cycling categories
The event will offer different distances to encourage participation from people with varying levels of fitness and sporting experience.
Participants can choose between the 5km and 10km runs, while cycling enthusiasts can take part in the 20km category. A separate 30km challenge will be available to participants in the Karachi Distance Series.
Nizami said the initiative aimed to encourage conversations about breast cancer, inspire support for those affected by the disease and demonstrate how sporting communities could contribute positively to society.
The organisers expect thousands of participants across the three cities, with the event seeking to promote healthier lifestyles, community engagement and breast cancer awareness through sports.
