ISLAMABAD: Earthquake tremors were felt in parts of Islamabad and neighbouring Rawalpindi on Monday, causing brief concern among residents.
People in several areas reported feeling the ground shake for a few seconds, prompting some to step outside homes and offices as a precaution. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
Authorities have yet to release details regarding the magnitude or epicentre of the quake.
On April 27, 5.7-magnitude earthquake had struck near the Afghanistan–Tajikistan border on April 27, with tremors felt in Islamabad and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including Swat, Shangla and Buner. The quake occurred at 11:46am at a depth of 170 kilometres, though the United States Geological Survey recorded it at a lower magnitude of 5.1. No major damage was reported. Pakistan frequently experiences earthquakes due to its location at the convergence of the Arabian, Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates, making seismic activity a recurring phenomenon.
