WEB DESK: US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Israel and Iran are seeking an immediate ceasefire amid heightened tensions, with final negotiations on a broader peace agreement underway.
Trump made the remarks in a post on Truth Social, stating that both sides were eager to halt hostilities while cautioning that progress could be derailed by external factors.
Negotiations proceed under pressure
“Both sides, Israel and Iran, are looking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE! Final negotiations on ‘Peace’ are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way,” the US president wrote.
He added that a blockade would remain in full force until a “Final Deal” is reached, noting that “things should move quickly.”
The statement comes as the two Middle Eastern rivals have engaged in recent exchanges of strikes, raising fears of wider regional instability. Trump has positioned himself as a key mediator, urging restraint from both parties.
Blockade to stay until final agreement
The US leader emphasised that the blockade affecting Iran would not be lifted prematurely. Analysts suggest this approach aims to maintain leverage in the ongoing diplomatic efforts.
No immediate confirmation from Israeli or Iranian officials was available at the time of writing, but the development has drawn attention from international observers monitoring the volatile situation.
