WEB DESK: Two personnel of the Federal Constabulary (FC) were martyred after unidentified militants opened fire on them in Bannu’s Kuram Garhi area on Sunday, while a separate overnight blast destroyed a vacant police post, officials said.
According to police, the two FC men were shopping in a local market within the jurisdiction of Cantt police station when assailants riding a motorcycle targeted them before fleeing the scene.
FC sources identified the deceased as Havaldar Rokhniyaz and Sepoy Rehmanullah, both serving in the FC Daryoba MI platoon.
Search operation underway
Security forces and police personnel swiftly cordoned off the area following the attack and launched a search operation to trace those responsible.
Officials said additional police contingents had been deployed, adding that all available resources were being utilised to arrest the attackers at the earliest opportunity.
Vacant police post destroyed in blast
In a separate incident late on Saturday night, militants reportedly blew up the Shamuzai police post, located within the limits of Township police station, using explosives.
Sources said the powerful blast levelled the building, which had remained vacant since 2022. No casualties were reported.
Police and other law enforcement agencies later reached the site, secured the area and began collecting evidence as part of the investigation.
Meanwhile, a Qaumi Jirga has announced a shutter-down and wheel-jam strike for April 20 in response to the deteriorating security situation.
