Two policemen martyred during raid to arrest PO in Lahore

LAHORE: Two policemen were martyred and three other injured after suspects opened fire on a police team during a raid to arrest a proclaimed offender in Lahore’s Badami Bagh area, police said.

The incident took place at Peshay Khan Chowk, within the jurisdiction of Larri Adda Police Station, when a police team went to the area to arrest a proclaimed offender.

According to police, the suspects opened indiscriminate fire on the personnel during the raid, which resulted in the death of Sub-Inspector Adeel Ashiq and Head Constable Asad, both posted at Larri Adda police station.

The attackers fled the area following the shooting.

A heavy contingent of police reached the scene shortly and cordoned off the area as authorities launched a search operation to trace the suspects.

Police teams have begun collecting evidence from the crime scene and investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Punjab Inspector General of Police Abdul Karim took notice of the incident and sought a report from Lahore Deputy Inspector General (Operations).

The provincial police chief directed officers to use all available resources to ensure the immediate arrest of those involved in the firing.

IG Abdul Karim paid tribute to the two police personnel who lost their lives while performing their duty and expressed solidarity with their families.

He said the welfare and complete care of the families of martyred police personnel remained a priority for the Punjab Police.

Meanwhile, talking to the media, Lahore Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Faisal Kamran said that the prime suspect in the firing on a police team has been identified as Rehan Butt.

According to the DIG, efforts are under way to identify the other suspects involved in the attack.

Sub-Inspector Adeel had previously registered a case against Rehan Butt in 2024 over death threats, according to police.

Further investigation is under way.
