PESHAWAR: Police killed two suspected terrorists, including a suicide bomber, during an operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district, while a separate attack on a police station in Tank left three personnel injured, authorities said on Wednesday.
According to Lakki Marwat police, the operation was launched near Gundi Chowk after receiving information about the presence of suspected militants. An exchange of fire followed, leaving two suspects dead, including a suicide attacker, while another was wounded and a fourth managed to escape.
Police said the suspects were preparing to carry out a major terrorist attack, which was foiled by the operation. Security personnel recovered weapons, ammunition, landmines, flags belonging to a banned organisation, communication equipment and other prohibited material from the site.
The provincial police chief praised the Lakki Marwat team and announced rewards for the personnel involved. The district police officer also vowed that militants would not be allowed to re-establish a presence in the area.
In a separate incident, militants attacked the Malazai police station in Tank district late on Tuesday, using a drone and opening heavy fire, according to police. Three police personnel sustained injuries in the assault.
The injured were identified as Head Constable Ali Allah, Constable Adnan and Constable Saif Ali. Police and security forces returned fire, while the wounded personnel were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the attackers and their facilitators, police said.
