RAWALPINDI: In response to the rising issue of underage driving, the Rawalpindi District Police registered 53 First Information Reports (FIRs) within a span of 24 hours, as revealed by a police spokesman on Monday.

The crackdown, initiated on the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi, Syed Khalid Hamdani, underscores the authorities’ commitment to addressing the menace of underage driving.

The spokesperson emphasised that these actions are in strict adherence to the law, with a total of 6,642 FIRs already filed against underage drivers.

During a meeting held at Traffic Headquarters, CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani chaired the session and instructed the City Traffic Police officers to take robust measures to curb violations of traffic rules, especially underage driving.

He stressed the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring road safety.

Highlighting the need for parental responsibility, the CPO urged parents to discourage underage driving among their children. He pointed out that fatal road accidents are often a result of speeding and reckless driving, particularly by underage individuals.

The Rawalpindi District Police’s proactive approach reflects a determination to create a safer environment on the roads.

The recent surge in FIR registrations demonstrates the severity with which the authorities are addressing the issue of underage driving to safeguard both young drivers and the general public.
