WEB DESK: The Iranian Defence Ministry has issued a stinging critique of American foreign policy, asserting that the era of Washington’s global dominance has come to an end.
Speaking at a recent briefing, Brigadier General Reza Talaei-Nik, the spokesperson for the Ministry, claimed that the United States is “no longer in a position to dictate its policy to independent nations, according to Al Jazeera.
His remarks underscore a growing sentiment within Tehran that the geopolitical landscape has shifted toward a multipolar order, where Western influence is increasingly contested by regional powers.
A call to abandon ‘irrational demands’
General Talaei-Nik argued that the American administration remains tethered to outdated diplomatic strategies that rely on coercion.
He suggested that for stability to be maintained, Washington must “accept that it must abandon its illegal and irrational demands” regarding sovereign states.
The spokesperson’s comments appear to be a direct reference to the long-standing tensions over economic sanctions and military presence in the Middle East.
By framing US demands as “irrational,” Tehran is positioning itself as a leader among nations that refuse to adhere to the traditional Western-led international framework.
Shifting dynamics in the Middle East
The rhetoric from the Defence Ministry comes at a time of heightened regional sensitivity. Iran has consistently sought to strengthen its ties with Eastern powers and neighbouring states, arguing that security in the Persian Gulf should be managed by local actors rather than external forces.
Talaei-Nik’s assertion reflects a broader Iranian strategy to portray the US as a declining power.
According to the spokesperson, the resilience of “independent nations” has rendered traditional American leverage such as the threat of military intervention or fiscal isolation far less effective than in previous decades.
