The first teaser for Verity has been released, giving audiences an early look at Anne Hathaway in a strikingly darker role in the upcoming adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel.
The psychological thriller also stars Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, and is set to arrive in cinemas on October 2.
A tense first look
The teaser introduces Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired to complete a book series by acclaimed author Verity Crawford after a mysterious accident leaves her unable to continue.
Lowen travels to the Crawford home, where she meets Verity’s husband Jeremy, played by Hartnett. What begins as a professional opportunity quickly takes a darker turn as she becomes entangled in the family’s unsettling dynamics.
In one of the teaser’s key moments, Lowen shares an intimate scene with Jeremy that suddenly shifts into a disturbing encounter involving Verity, blurring the line between reality and illusion.
Secrets at the centre of the story
As the teaser unfolds, Hathaway’s character delivers a chilling warning in voiceover, hinting at deeper secrets within the Crawford household.
At the heart of the story is a hidden manuscript discovered by Lowen, revealing disturbing details that raise questions about whether the events described are fictional or a confession.
As she grows closer to Jeremy and his son, she must decide how much of the truth she is willing to uncover.
Another Hoover adaptation heads to cinemas
Directed by Michael Showalter and written by Nick Antosca, Verity is the latest of Hoover’s works to be adapted for the screen, following titles such as It Ends With Us, Regretting You and Reminders of Him.
The film is scheduled for release on October 2.
