Where are the controversial tweets? Hadi Ali Chattha demands as case proceeds

Controversial tweet case

WEB DESK: The District and Sessions Court in Islamabad continued hearings in the controversial tweets case against Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha, presided over by Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka.

During proceedings, Mazari’s lawyer requested that the case be adjourned until 11:00 am, to which the court agreed. The judge also postponed the recording of witnesses’ statements earlier at Mazari’s request. The prosecutor requested that the remaining accused be allowed to appear at 11:00 am as well, noting that witnesses were ready to record their statements. The court then granted a short break until 10:00 am.

Mazari and Chatha were not present in court after the break, with Mazari attending a separate high court hearing related to a bail petition. Junior lawyers noted that if the accused could not appear in one case, it was unclear how they could attend another. Judge Majoka warned that if the accused did not present themselves by 10:30 am, the case would proceed under high court directives.

After resuming, witnesses from the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NCCIA) began recording their statements. Witness Wasim presented his identification card in court, while Hadi Ali Chatha requested that the witness also show their departmental card, which Wasim did not have at that moment. Another NCCIA witness, Imran Haider, submitted both his identification and service cards while recording his testimony.

Hadi Ali Chattha raised an objection stating that the controversial tweets in question were not shown in court. Overall, statements of five witnesses were recorded during the proceedings.

The court has now adjourned the case until December 23, 2025, directing the lawyers of Mazari and Chattha to cross-examine the witnesses on that date.
