WEB DESK: In a strange turn of events, cleric Mufti Qavi, who is notorious for his statements especially involving women celebrities has claimed that Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor did Nikkah with him, which lasted for 18 years.
Speaking in a podcast he said Kareena was Pakistan’s ‘bahu‘. He mentioned that Dr Zakir Naik and Professor Hameedullah among others claim that ‘Hindus might also fall in the category of ”People of the Book”, which later also helped in the marriage of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena.
Earlier this month, Mufti Qavi recently sparked a social media storm with claims about Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai and her husband Abhishek Bachchan, suggesting the couple may be heading toward separation. In a viral video, he went further, stating that he expects a marriage proposal from Aishwarya within two to four months if a separation occurs. He also claimed he would convert her to Islam, renaming her Ayesha Rai, drawing parallels with actress Rakhi Sawant, who reportedly converted and became ‘Fatima’.
The statements had immediately attracted widespread attention online, with many users ridiculing them as baseless and humorous, while others criticised Qavi sharply. This is not the first time he has made such claims about Indian actresses; he previously offered to marry Rakhi Sawant, who rejected the offer humorously. Many argue that Qavi’s remarks are attention-seeking rather than grounded in reality, yet he remains unapologetic.
Qavi’s controversial reputation is further complicated by his past link to the Qandeel Baloch case. In 2016, Qandeel publicly accused him of inappropriate behaviour, and though he was acquitted following her murder, the case divided public opinion. Supporters celebrated him outside court, while critics condemned the decision, citing his controversial interactions with Qandeel. Despite the backlash, Qavi continues to make provocative statements that generate widespread online discussion.
