Will back Maulana’s support for constitutional amendment bill: Barrister Gohar

constitutional amendment bill:

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said that his party will not vote for the proposed 26th constitutional amendment.

“The PTI will not vote for the constitutional amendment but we appreciate JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s role. Maulana Fazlur Rehman is free to vote for the constitutional amendment. We will appreciate Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s support for the bill,” Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said while talking to the media after holding a meeting JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Reham at his residence.

Gohar said that several meetings regarding the constitutional amendment were held with JUI-F chief and the Sunni Unity Council. He praised Maulana Fazl’s significant role during the discussions on the amendment.

He noted that PTI considers the constitutional amendment a serious issue and that all decisions made by the party have been made in consultation with PTI founder Imran Khan.

While talking about the constitutional amendment dfraft, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazl said, ” We have broken the black snake’s teeth and removed the poison. Here’s a refined version of your text for improved clarity and flow:

“Now, even the PTI has no issue regarding the text. The PTI also has no disagreement on the basic draft. PTI’s decision to boycott the constitutional amendment is their right,” he said.

He said, “There is still time for reconciliation. Everyone can come together—both the opposition and the government collaborated for the 18th amendment, and the constitution belongs to the entire nation. We have worked together on the constitutional amendment, and each party has its own stance. No one can be forced into this.”

“If someone chooses to protest through a boycott, that is their right. Personalities should not be the focus of any issue — they are here today and gone tomorrow. Amendments will be passed in the House through consensus. The objectionable material has been removed, though there is still room for discussion on two or three points in the current draft. While we have agreed on the overall package, there may still be differences over some details,” he explained.

Earlier, the federal cabinet approved the proposed draft of the 26th constitutional amendment, which was earlier approved by the parliament’s special committee headed by Pakistan People’s Party MNA Syed Khurshid Shah.

The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, was held in Islamabad, where the law minister presented a detailed briefing on the proposed amendment.
