Zootopia 2 has officially become the highest-grossing Hollywood movie of 2025, cementing its dominance at the global box office just weeks after release.

The Walt Disney Animation Studios sequel crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide 17 days after opening, making it the second film of the year to reach the milestone after Lilo & Stitch. As of Sunday, December 14, the film had earned $1.13 billion globally, surpassing Lilo & Stitch’s $1.03 billion haul, according to industry figures.

The only film to outperform it worldwide this year is China’s animated hit Ne Zha 2, which has grossed approximately $1.9 billion, Variety reported.

By reaching $1 billion in just 17 days, Zootopia 2 has also set a new record for the fastest animated film to achieve the milestone, as well as the quickest among all PG-rated releases.

The sequel reunites detectives Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman, as they investigate the arrival of a mysterious reptile whose presence threatens to disrupt the carefully balanced mammal metropolis. The case forces the pair to go undercover in unfamiliar parts of the city, putting their partnership to the test.

Critical and audience reception has remained strong. The film currently holds a 91 percent Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, alongside a 96 percent audience score, reinforcing its broad appeal across age groups.

With its rapid box office climb and strong word of mouth, Zootopia 2 continues to position itself as one of Disney’s most successful animated sequels to date.
