MUMBAI: On a recent Air India flight from Mumbai to Dubai, passengers experienced a harrowing ordeal that lasted for five hours.
During the hours-long delay, passengers were trapped inside the aircraft under distressing conditions, leaving several passengers frustrated and suffocated. Flight AI909 was scheduled to take off from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.
The incident occurred when the aircraft was grounded on the tarmac for an extended period. Reports indicate that the air conditioning system was turned off, leading to a rapid increase in heat inside the cabin.

Passengers, including families with children and the elderly, began to feel the effects of the oppressive heat. It quickly escalated into a state of discomfort and panic. As the minutes turned into hours, the situation became increasingly untenable, forcing many to short and otherwise voice their anger.
Eyewitness accounts describe a scene of chaos as passengers began to slam the doors in anger, demanding to be evacuated from the metallic cage.
The lack of communication from the flight crew added to their frustration. Passengers reported that the pilot remained in the cockpit and did not attempt to address the situation or reassure those on board.
As the hours dragged on, the passengers’ anger reached a boiling point. Many began to question the airline’s protocols and the decision-making process that led to such a prolonged delay without adequate ventilation or communication,
After a total delay of eight hours, the flight finally departed for Dubai. However, upon arrival, passengers were met with further disappointment as they reported that no explanation or apology was offer by Air India.
The lack of accountability and customer service has been a recurring theme for the airline, which has faced criticism in the past for its operational inefficiency and service quality.
Once a prestigious airline, Air India has struggled to maintain its reputation in recent years. According to Skytrax’s 2024 ranking, the airline is currently positioned in 90th place, a reflection of ongoing issues in providing a satisfactory travel experience.
